Hinkley Point vs Timberscombe 21st June 2008
Overnight rain made a firm pitch wet on top and was always going to
make early batting difficult. Hinkley won the toss and did not hesitate
to invite the visitors to bat. Despite the pitch condition the
Timberscombe batsmen set about their task feeding off some loose short
bowling and waiting for bad balls to put away. Nick Hill played
aggresively for a quick fire 40 from 34 balls before being
unfortunately given out caught behind when playing his pad. Paul Sparks
(51)then patiently built on Hill’s early work to keep the momentum of
the innings going. All the Timberscombe batsmen chipped in and carried
the score to 175 for 8 when the innings closed. D Hill was the pick of
the bowlers with 4 for 47.
Hinkley set about the chase with a combination of patience and hard
hitting. With 10 overs remaining they were well set as the rain came
and conditions swung in favour of the batting side. A combination of
slippery ball and outfield made bowling and fielding hard going. J Hill
was determined to make the most of the opportunity and did so with a
well hit 60 not out. This match winning innings was ably supported by
all the other Hinkley batsmen as they reached the winning total with 12
balls to spare. Rob Golding again bowled well with an impressive 4 for
39.
