Over Stowey vs Timberscombe 19th July 2008
Over Stowey climbed away from the foot of the table with a convincing
59 run victory over Timberscombe.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat, Stowey made a steady start
reaching 50 of the first 20 overs. Opening bowlers Rob Goulding and Will
Giblett had worked hard to restrict the scoring in the early stages.
Wickets in hand were the key and Stowey were able to up the tempo due
in the main to a well hit unbeaten 100 by J Platt. Stowey effectively
took the game away from Timberscombe in the middle phase of the innings
as none of the bowlers ever managed to master the bowling conditions.
Early overs of the Timberscombe reply went well but then the Stowey
bowlers turned the screws and the runs dried up. Â The slow start meant
that the chase was never on and at 57 for 4 the visitors were in
trouble after 22 overs. Paul Keal (49) and Paul Sparks (36 no) manged
to salvage a little repectability to the score, but batting points were
the only real objective. The inning finally closed some 59 runs short
as Stowey ran out deserved winners.
