Timberscombe vs Lydeard St. Lawrence 12th July 2008
A good all round display from the home side saw them run out
comfortable winners by 81 runs.
Lydeard won the toss and invited their hosts to bat on a damp wicket.
A slow and patient start saw the openers battle to 54 from the first
19 overs. Ben Bowman was the first to fall for 30. A quick flurry of
wickets brought Paul Keal and Paul Sparks together to once more build
the partnership of the innings. Despite tight and effective bowling in
the conditions, the pair put on 86 valuable runs together. When Paul
Keal was out in the penultimate over for 61 it was possible that he and
Sparks (28 no) had helped to post a challenging total.
So it proved to be as first Rob Golding (1 for 8) and Will Giblett (1
for 25) put the brakes on the first 15 overs of the Lydeard reply. The
innings was set for Paul Keal to complete his all round contribution by
first dismissing the dangerous W Venton for 21 and then going on to
take 8 for 13 in 7 overs. Geoff Dibble ably supported Keal with an
equally miserly spell of 7 overs for 13 runs. For once the Timberscombe
fielders were able to adequately support their bowlers taking catches
all around the ground helping to seal an important home win.
