Timberscombe vs Mark Gunn’s XI 27th June 2008
Timberscombe ran out winners by 50 runs in this highly entertaining game 20/20 game. Mid-week captain Steve Perkins surprisingly won a toss and decided to bat. Will Giblett opened with T Sparks and both were caught by Gunn with young Sparkle only making 4 but Giblett got Timberscombe off to a flyer with some lusty blows in his 27. Brandon Rawle played well and reached his 30 before retiring and Perkins made a swift 20 before being bowled off his pads by Laurie’s grandson. Jason Abbott blasted 30 before retiring and Abbott senior made 10 not out and with Nick Hill slapping a lucky 25 before being caught by Sidley-Adams off the bowling of Greek international Gus Woolbridge to leave the Gunn eleven a competitive 163 to win. In reply spinner Tom Sparkes removed both openers for 1 and 16 and Ali Lang continued with his impressive wicket tally adding Jason Hill for 10 and the danger man Woolbridge for a duck, to his list of victims. Dave Sowden hit a six before Golding had him caught behind. Gareth Morgan came in and hit some lusty blows before falling to the guile of Paul Sparks for 15. Pete “Pasty” Adams was the most impressive batsman playing some hard straight drives and a fine cut up the hill in his 37 not out which included 6 boundaries. However Adams ran out of partners when Perkins who dropped a hard caught and bowled chance previous ball trapped Gunn plumb lbw and the special spin of Nick Hill bamboozled Mikey T to wrap up the innings 50 runs short of their target.
