Timberscombe v Stoke St Gregory May 23 2009

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Timberscombe ran out easy winners to complete their second win of the
season. Asked to bat first, the home side found the early going tough.
After 20 overs they had moved to 52 for the loss of one wicket. From
then on the innings took off. With skipper Paul Sparks leading the way
with 78, healthy contributions from opener Btuce Lang, 32 and Joe
Shooter a total of 186 for 4 was posted.

The Stoke reply never really got going. A wicket to the third ball of
the innings and tight bowling from Rob Golding and Will Giblett meant
the visitors were always up against it. A lively and hard hit
52 by M Vigar brought some respectability to the innings, but they
were always  behind the required rate ending 57 runs short.

Timberscombe 186 for 4
Paul Sparks 78
Joe Shooter 34 no
Bruce Lang 32

Stoke St Gregory 129 for 4
M Vigar 52
Rob Golding 16 for 2

North Newton v Timberscombe May 16 2009

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

The game was restricted to 30 overs per side after showery weather
made the chances of a full afternoon’s cricket unlikely. Timberscombe
won the toss and elected to bat. Once the early showers had passed Paul
Sparks and Bruce Lang set about their task. Their opening partnership
of 51 proved to be the biggest of the match. Lang departed on 15 and a
brief flurry of wickets brought Paul Keal to the crease. He picked up
the tempo of the innings as opener Sparks went 1 short of his half
century. Caswell bowled well for his 5 wickets. When the innings closed
Keal’s 33 had helped to take the score to a healthy 157.

North Newton found the going tough. Rob Golding bowled a miserly early
spell of five overs for 4 runs. All the bowlers continued to keep the
runs down, and with two good run outs by Tom Sparks, and a couple of
wickets from Keal  Newton were always well short of challenging the
total.

Timberscombe 157 for 9
Paul Sparks 49
Paul Keal 33
Caswell 5 for 31

North Newton 109 for 5
B Sellick 37 no
Paul Keal 2 for 22

Timberscombe 23 Points beat North Newton by 48 Runs

Bishop’s Hull v Timberscombe May 9 2009

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Timberscombe put Bishop’s Hull in on a lively looking wicket. So it
was to prove as wickets fell on a regular basis on a day when ball
dominated bat.  Hoddinott was the pick of the Bishop’s Hull batting his
positive approach enabled him to hit his way to 19. Bowlers Rob Golding
and Will Giblett used the conditions well and worked their way steadily
through the Bishop’s Hull batting line up, they were ably backed up by
Ben Bowman.

In reply Timberscombe’s batsmen found the going no easier and found
themselves losing wickets at key moments. Well taken catches and
accurate bowling, especially by England and Holman made the going
tough.
Paul Sparks was the only batsmen to show any kind of sustained
resistence. He battled his way to 46 before being the last man out. The
innings ended with the visitors 29 runs short.

Bishop’s Hull 120 All out
Rob Golding 3 for 20
Will Giblett 3 for 21
Ben Bowman 3 for 35

Timberscombe 91 All out
Paul Sparks 46
Hoddinott 3 for 10

Timberscombe 7 Points lost to Bishop’s Hull 24 Points by 29 Runs

Timberscombe v Taunton May 2 2009

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Rain on Thursday and Friday ended chances of a game on grass and the
artificial wicket came to the rescue. Winning the toss, Taunton elected
to bat and were soon enjoying the unusually reliable early season
conditions.  Masters (64)and Hunt (38) the Taunton openers set about
their task, and took full advantage of wayward bowling and the short
leg side boundary. The first wicket fell on 110, and with Preston
following up with 34 Taunton looked well placed. Timberscombe were
relieved to get to tea and were perhaps a tad fortunate to have
restricted the batsmen to 186 for 5 by the close of the innings. Of the
home side’s bowlers only Rob Golding with 4 for 38 could be pleased
with the way he had bowled.

In reply Timberscombe never really got going and lost crucial wickets
at key stages. Cameo innings by Ben bowman, Paul Sparks and Paul Keal
were never enough to trouble the fielding side. The only bright spot of
the innings was a maiden league half century by 15 year old Tom Sparks.
His 61 not out and a late 50 run partnership with Rob Golding (16) made
the score respectable and earned full batting points for the home side.
Man of the match Masters took 4 for 37 and was the pick of the bowlers.

Taunton 186 for 5
M Masters 64
Rob Golding 4 for 38

Timberscombe 157 for 7
Tom Sparks 61 no
M Masters 4 for 37

Timberscombe 7 Points lost to Taunton 24 Points
