Timberscombe v Taunton May 2 2009

Rain on Thursday and Friday ended chances of a game on grass and the
artificial wicket came to the rescue. Winning the toss, Taunton elected
to bat and were soon enjoying the unusually reliable early season
conditions.  Masters (64)and Hunt (38) the Taunton openers set about
their task, and took full advantage of wayward bowling and the short
leg side boundary. The first wicket fell on 110, and with Preston
following up with 34 Taunton looked well placed. Timberscombe were
relieved to get to tea and were perhaps a tad fortunate to have
restricted the batsmen to 186 for 5 by the close of the innings. Of the
home side’s bowlers only Rob Golding with 4 for 38 could be pleased
with the way he had bowled.

In reply Timberscombe never really got going and lost crucial wickets
at key stages. Cameo innings by Ben bowman, Paul Sparks and Paul Keal
were never enough to trouble the fielding side. The only bright spot of
the innings was a maiden league half century by 15 year old Tom Sparks.
His 61 not out and a late 50 run partnership with Rob Golding (16) made
the score respectable and earned full batting points for the home side.
Man of the match Masters took 4 for 37 and was the pick of the bowlers.

Taunton 186 for 5
M Masters 64
Rob Golding 4 for 38

Timberscombe 157 for 7
Tom Sparks 61 no
M Masters 4 for 37

Timberscombe 7 Points lost to Taunton 24 Points
