Stoke St Mary v Timberscombe June 13 2009
A good all round performance from Timberscombe secured their fourth
consecutive win as they crushed Stoke St Mary by 189 runs.
Electing to bat openers Nick Hill and Paul Sparks made a steady start
before really setting about the Stoke bowling. When Hill fell for 27 in
the 15th over they had moved on to 84. Despite the fall of another
quick wicket the innings then gathered pace. Sparks with Pat Reed (37)
and then with Paul Keal (42) set about the Stoke bowling as they put
the ball to all parts. Sparks finally reached his 100 off 87 balls and
when he was finally out the score had moved to 243. This left a final
flurry from Kev Godfrey who ended with an unbeaten 27 to carry the
score to 279 at tea. Paul Gardner had worked hard for the home side and
finished with respectable figures of 39 for 3 off his 12 overs.
The Stoke St Mary proved to be one way traffic as first Rob Golding
with 13 for 4, and then Tom Sparks with 18 for 4, worked their way
through the batting. Only opener Packer and Collins further down the
order managed double figures as the visitors closed in on victory. The
final wicket fell on 90 as Timberscombe ran out comprehensive winners.
