Stogumber v Timberscombe 29 August 2009

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Visitors Timberscombe did everything they could to give themselves a fighting chance of promotion.

Invited to bat, Ben Bowman and Nick Hill got away to a steady start, until Ben was finally out in the 11th over on 16. this allowed skipper Paul Sparks to set about the home bowling. When drinks were taken on 20 overs the score had moved to 109 with ’skip’ getting his 50 off the last ball of the 20th over. This then brought about a change in the home sides bowling plans. Nick hill was soon out for 24 followed by Kev Godfrey after a breezy 23. The innings finally fizzled out to a below par 196 for 7.

Stogumber then set off in pusuit of the visistors total. Tight bowling from openers Rob Golding and Kev Godfrey kept Timberscombe in control. With the departure of the dangerous James Rexworthy the onus fell on opener Watts. A dislocated finger meant that wicket keeper Sparks had to be put out to graze for a while. Change of bowlers to Nick Virgin and Ben Bowman meant the control was maintained. When the final wicket fell on 169 the visitors were able to finally relax.

Bagborough v Timberscombe 22 August 2009

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Timberscombe brushed Bagborough aside as they got
revenge for the defeat against the same opposition earlier in the
season.

Asked to bat Timberscombe went about their innings cautiously on an
unreliable surface. Paul Sparks (42) and Bruce Lang (33) put together a
handy second wicket 71 run partnership that provided a platform for the
team to push off from. A flurry of wickets meant the innings faltered a
little until Tom Sparks (40) and Will Giblett (30 no, including one huge six) put together  60
runs from just 7 overs to effectively take the game away from the
hosts. The innings closed on 204 for 6.

Bagborough were soon in trouble as opener Phillips was run out without
facing in the first over. 24 for 2 soon became 57 for 7 as the visitors
bowlers all helped themselves. Rob Golding and Will Giblett were backed
up by the change bowlers. But, it was the spinnners who caused most
trouble as, firstly Nick Virgin picked up 2 wickets, and then Geoff
Dibble polished off the tail with 3 for 9.
