Timberscombe v Stoke St Mary 22 May 2010
Sunday, May 23rd, 2010On a sunny and warm afternoon, Timberscombe’s decision to bat proved a
wise one.
Openers Nick Hill and Steve Archer made a steady and solid start
setting a firm base for the home side’s innings.
A quick flurry of three wickets brought a 75 run fourth wicket
partnership that proved decisive. Matchball Sponsors: The Lion at
Timberscombe had no problem selecting Paul Keal as Man of the match for
his unbeaten 79. He was ably assisted by the hard hitting Kev Godfrey
who hit 33 for the second week running. A Tetley with three wickets
and the luckless Paul Gardner, who was the pick of the Stoke bowlers,
worked long and hard in the heat. The innings closed on 207 for 5.
The Timberscombe bowlers set about their task from there on. All
contributed with wickets. Rob Golding’s early 7 over spell for only 9
runs set the tone of the innings. Opening partner Will Giblett picked
up a couple of wickets as the pressure to score runs built. Once again
spin pair Nick Virgin and Geoff Dibble took advantage of the excellent
conditions. Dibble took 2 whilst partner Virgin picked up 3. The
innings was finished in the 30th over with the last wicket falling on
83. Only M Walker with 26 really troubled the Timberscombe bowlers.
