Timberscombe v Minehead 10 Sept

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Despite posting the biggest total that Timberscombe had conceded this
season Minehead were unable to secure the victory required to give
themselves chance of staying up in Division 2.

Invited to bat Minehead made a steady start to their innings before losing their first wicket
in the 9th over. Fall of the second 4 overs later brought together
Charlie Tudball and Ross Hartgen. The hard hitting of Hartgen and the
steady support of Tudball allowed the Minehead innings to take shape.
Their partnership of 87 gave the visitors a chance of posting a
challenging total. The departure of one Tudball for 14 brought brother
Harry to the wicket. A further partnership of 44 took the total towards
the final score of 164 for 8. Hartgen had reached 78 and Harry Tudball
33 before both had given up their wickets in the late run chase. Rob
Golding was the pick of the bowlers with a miserly spell of 4 for 20
from his 12 overs. Nick Virgin also chipped in with 3 wickets.

The Timberscombe reply started positively. Nick Hill dealing harshly with
loose deliveries and opening partner Hannah Sparks ably supporting him.
Hill was out on 33 with the score on 46. Ben Bowman came to the wicket
and immediately picked up the tempo where Hill had left off. A mix up
between batters and the deadly arm of evergreen Stu Tudball brought
about the run out of Sparks. From here on Bowman took control and
carried the innings forward. Timberscombe reached the total set with 8
overs to spare, Bowman ending unbeaten on 63.

Over Stowey v Timberscombe 3 Sept

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Timberscombe overcame a spirited Over Stowey side by seven wickets to secure back to back championships.

Stowey batted first and were given the ideal platform by openers P Simms and M Sortwell who put on 52. Rob Golding bowled his 12 overs for 18 runs picking up two wickets. An aggresive half century by Jack Rich allowed Stowey to move to 143 for 3. At this stage a large total looked possible. Will Giblett and Keith Graddon had other ideas. As the last seven wickets fell clean bowled Graddon picked up three wickets and Giblett 4 as the Stowey innings tailed away to 162 all out.

For the second week running a poor start brought early pressure as Timberscombe struggled to 25 for 3. This brought Paul Keal and Andy Dyer together. Using all their experience they steadied the innings and then set about hitting the home side’s bowlers to all parts. Their partnership of 142 took the innings home with 4 overs to spare. Keal ended on 75 and Dyer 63, both unbeaten.

Timberscombe v Lydeard St Lawrence 27 August

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Timberscombe finally overcame a battling Lydeard side to secure a 4 wicket victory and promotion back into Division 1.

The visitors batted first and Keth Graddon and Rob Golding put the brakes on any progress. S Conner-Muir and M Hanniford batted sensibly, holding the innings together. Several dropped catches later and Conner- Muir (41) and Hanniford (33) had carried the innings forward. Lydeard were able to post a handy 133 for 4 on a wet and lively track.

The total looked defendable as Timberscombe lost early and important wickets. Failing to cope with Simon Cattell, the home side’s total struggled to 50 with 5 wickets down. At this point Hannah Sparks joined Kev Godfrey and helped steady the ship. At the half way stage the game was well balanced. Following the dismissal of Sparks for a valuable 7, it was left to Godfrey and new partner Keith Graddon to find a way to the total required. This they did in some style.  Godfrey finished on 44 and Graddon on 36 as victory was secured in the 36th over.

Timberscombe v Carhampton 6 August

Monday, September 12th, 2011

A lively wicket was to provide a challenge too far as league leaders Timberscombe suffered their first defeat of the season.

Carhampton found the going tough and only Timberscombe old boy Luke Taylor made any headway with 21 as the visitors were bowled out for 104. All bowlers did damage with Keith Graddon again taking 4 wickets.

The Timberscombe reply never took shape and a combination of hostile bowling and poor shot selection left the home side’s innings in tatters. Ben Bowman top scored with only 14 as the home side were bundled out for only 47. Another old boy did the damage with the ball as Dom Westcott took 6 for 32.

Hinkley Point v Timberscombe 30 July

Monday, September 12th, 2011

An understrength Hinkley found in
form Timberscombe a difficult challenge on a challenging wicket.

Invited to bat the hosts were soon in trouble losing a wicket in the
first over. 28 runs and 5 overs later things looked better. From here
the Timberscombe bowlers took control. Rob Golding proved the pick
ending with 5 for 18 in just over 9 overs. He was unfortunate not to
take a hat-trick but settled instead for 3 in 4 four balls. Nick Virgin
and Will Giblett took the other wickets between them, ending the
Hinkley innings on 76 in 18 overs.

In reply a lively start was
punctuated with the loss of opener Hannah Sparks. From here on fellow
opener Nick Hill, and Paul Sparks took to the bowling harshly. The
innings was over, and the total reached, in just over 12 overs as both
ended unbeaten, Hill on 40 and Sparks on 31.

Timberscombe v Dulverton 23 July

Monday, September 12th, 2011

This top of the table clash on 23rd July
lived up to its billing as the game ebbed
and flowed.

Asked to bat
Timberscombe got away to a lively start as
Ben Bowman and Nick Hill
set about their task. The score had reached 61
in the 12th over before
the first wicket fell as Bowman departed on 36.
The fall of Hill’s
wicket for 31 with the score on 84 was to prove the
turning point of
the innings. From here the bowlers began to take
control. C Lewington
was to prove the pick of the bowlers, ably
assisted by Rowan Snell and
H Harrison. wickets fell at regular
intervals and with batsmen getting
starts and then getting out the home
side struggled their way to 149
for 8 from their allotted overs.

After tea it was the turn of
Timberscombe opening bowlers Will Giblett
and Rob Golding to apply
some pressure. After 16 overs they had
restricted the score to 44 and
had taken two wickets apiece. This
brought together D Heard and Carl
Hooper. By the 24th over they had
carried the score forward to 84 and
were both looking as comfortable as
any batsmen had looked all
afternoon. From here on change bowler Keith
Graddon started to take
control. Once again he was ably assisted by
Nick Virgin who applied
the brakes at the other end. When Hooper and
Heard both departed in
the 25 and 28 respectively the tail was exposed.
Graddon ended with
six wickets, and the Dulverton innings faded away to
97 all out as
Timberscombe had bowled out the opposition in double
figures for the
8th time this season.

Cannington v Timberscombe 16 July

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

Timberscombe kept up their unbeaten run with a comprehensive 8 wicket
win over Cannington.

Morning rain had not done undue damage to the Cannington wicket.
Timberscombe won the toss and chose to field. Once again the early
opening bowlers, Will Giblett and Rob Golding, took control. Sixteen
overs in and Cannington were struggling on 37 for 3. Things were to get
worse as change bowlers Paul Keal and Keith Graddon took over. Graddon
bowled his 12 overs for 13 runs and Keal took advantage of the control
this allowed as he took 7 for 45. Only D Jones and R Gamblin reached
scores in the twenties as the innings ended on 98 all out.

In reply openers Nick Hill and Ben Graddon took a positive approach to
chasing the total. The first wicket fell on 67 with Graddon departing
on 31. Fellow opener Hill fell for 39 with only 6 runs required. The
visitors ran out comfortable winners by 8 wickets.
